How to Ship Packages

Be sure to ask your Books as Bridges contact their address exactly as it should appear on an envelope. This will better ensure your mail will be delivered to your partner properly.

What to Include with your Shipments to the US

While students in the US are very interested to learn more about your culture and community, please take special care to mail items that are approved by US Customs. Some ideal items include paper goods, pictures, crafts, fabric/tapestries, and/or other creative items that represent your culture.

View the US Postal Service regulations on incoming mail.

General Mailing Information

Books as Bridges recommends that international partners research mailing options in their own community. However, you may find the information below from the United States Postal Service (USPS) helpful.

The USPS recommends that senders use strong envelopes or durable packaging material to prevent deterioration or degradation, and that they consider the nature of the articles being mailed and the distance they must travel to reach their destination. Books as Bridges recommends that classrooms do not exchange food items unless they are pre-packaged and well preserved.

View the USPS “Mailability” Regulations.

Addressing Your Package/Envelope

The US Post Office requires envelopes to be addressed as follows:

LINE 1:  NAME OF ADDRESSEE
LINE 2:  STREET ADDRESS OR POST OFFICE BOX NUMBER
LINE 3:  CITY OR TOWN NAME, STATE
LINE 4:  USA
