Harriet Van Meter
Many years ago, on a trip to India, Harriet Van Meter was astounded to see people waiting in long lines. What do you think they were waiting for?

When she returned home, the sight of those long lines stayed with her. So, Harriet started her own person-to-person book project from her basement in Lexington, Kentucky. Her one-person operation grew into the International Book Project, which has sent out [NEED NUMBERS HERE] books to the world.

Ardena Gojani
In 1999, at 12 years old, Ardena Gojani and her family came to the United States to escape war in her native country of Kosovo. Though she didn't speak English when she arrived, she quickly adapted to her new American home and language. But she never forgot about the people she left behind in Kosovo.

In 2000, Ardena and her family went back to Kosovo for a brief visit. During the trip she realized the educational opportunities that she enjoyed in the United States did not exist for all people. A seed was planted in Ardena that would be nurtured over the next five years: She was determined to improve the educational system in Kosovo and give her people an opportunity to learn and improve their lives.

At first she and her family carried small numbers of books back to Kosovo in their suitcases. Then she set her sights higher - she wanted to send an IBP container of books. For that, she would need $10,000.

In 2005, at 18, Ardena realized her goal. Through her own hard work and the support of family, friends, church members, and classmates, she sent an IBP shipment of more than 15,000 books to Kosovo.
