Donating Books to IBP

We greatly appreciate your time and effort in donating reading material to those in need worldwide. Although we send books of all sorts abroad, there are some guidelines we must follow to make sure that the books we send can be used. Single copy books with no designated purpose abroad may be recycled through the IBP Bookstore (proceeds support the further mission of IBP). Thank you for your consideration of the following:
  • The "5 Year Rule" - When donating used books, please keep in mind their continuing life abroad. We want the books we send to look good and last for at least five years. Bindings that are torn or broken should be avoided, as should excessive underlining and highlighting of text.
  • Encyclopedias should be no older than 1990.
  • Medical/Nursing textbooks:
    • Textbooks should be copyrighted after 2000.
    • No Medical, Nursing or Technical Journals
    • No abstracts, JAMA, or medical data, please.
  • Textbooks - Multiple copies are better than single copies. 20+ of the same title are extremely useful. Topics most sought:
    • Reference - dictionaries/encyclopedias
    • English/Grammar
    • Sciences - Physics, Biology, Chemistry, etc.
    • Agriculture
    • Math
    • Literature Anthologies
    • Humanities, Education, Psychology, Sociology, etc.
    • World History
    • Subjects with an American orientation (American History series, etc.) are not as useful as world history texts.
    • Books copyrighted 1990 or later, please.
  • Paperbacks, Hardbacks, Fiction or Fact books, Children or Adult books, that are not textbooks are welcome for sending overseas, or for selling to support the mission of the International Book Project.
  • All charges related to shipping books to the International Book Project are tax deductible. A tax letter will be mailed to the book donor upon receipt of books at the IBP warehouse. Also, all book donations mailed to IBP may be valued by the donor for tax purposes.
Please remember to include a cash donation that will allow your books to be shipped to their final destination abroad. Even $20.00 helps out a lot!

Thank you again for your donation!
Your discarded books could enrich an entire school!
